About MFC International
Specialists in Inflatable Rescue Equipment Since 1959
MFC International is a specialist designer and manufacturer of inflatable rescue, recovery and survival equipment, based in Tonypandy, South Wales. Our lifting bags, water rescue equipment, decontamination units and shelters are used by fire and rescue services, mountain and lowland rescue teams, utilities, armed forces and humanitarian organisations worldwide, and we have earned a reputation for quality, durability and performance that spans more than 65 years.
Our History
Founded in 1959 at the old Naval Colliery site in Tonypandy, MFC began by manufacturing life jackets and life rafts for the Royal Navy. Our focus soon shifted to specialist inflatables for the defence and rescue industries, where we built a history of genuine firsts: we invented the airlift bag, were the first to manufacture aircraft recovery bags and were among the first to introduce inflatable shelters.
In 2013 MFC became part of the Respirex group of companies, bringing new investment in product development and manufacturing. New product lines followed, including rescue craft, evacuation rafts and decontamination showers, and in 2017 the business became MFC International to reflect the expanded range. Recent years have seen continued investment in our Tonypandy factory, including new moulding presses that brought high pressure lifting mat production fully in house, alongside JOSCAR accreditation for the defence sector and our appointment to the NHS framework for Clinical Decontamination Units.

Made in South Wales
Every MFC product is designed, manufactured and tested under one roof at our factory in Tonypandy, South Wales. From the first design drawings through material cutting, welding, moulding and final inflation testing, nothing leaves the site until it has passed through the hands of our skilled team, many of whom have spent decades building technical inflatables.
Manufacturing in the UK gives us complete control over quality, materials and lead times, and it means we are not tied to standard products. Because everything is built to order in our own factory, we can adapt any product or design something entirely bespoke, however challenging the requirement. It also means that when equipment comes back to us for inspection or repair, it is assessed and restored by the same people who built it.
